Once again the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has proved its dominance in Assam and has emerged as the single largest party in the Assam Panchayat elections.
The BJP has acquired 42 per cent of the total seats succeeding over the Congress that acquired 34 per cent votes as stated by the Assam State Election Commission (ASEC).
BJP acquired 11,325 posts out of a total 26,784 posts, Congress 8,970 posts, Asom Gana Parishad 1,963 posts, All India United Democratic Front 1,319 posts and Independents 3,048 posts in the Panchayat Polls that commenced on December 9, 2018.
