GUWAHATI: 23 gentlemen -- all elected MCLAs of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) from the BJP-UPPL-GSP combine have reached Guwahati, where they are being put up at the 5-star Hotel Radisson Blu, located on the city's outskirts. Tomorrow, they will again pack their bags and head for Kokrajhar, where a Floor Test will be held.

Earlier today, the elected MCLs were being brought in from Meghalaya on Benz buses, recently sanctioned by the Government of Assam. They will again be taken to Kokrajhar in the morning tomorrow to cast their votes as newly-appointed Chief of the Council, Promod Boro, sees his "agni pariksha" (test by fire) on the floor, as per the dictates of the Gauhati High Court. The Court, taking cognizance of the fact that the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) emerged as the single-largest party in the election, has ordered a floor test so that Boro can prove his majority.

The extreme secrecy over the MCLAs -- who were initially kept in Guwahati after the declaration of the results -- has invited immense scrutiny from the media. According to reports, the group has not been allowed to return to prevent the switching of alliances ahead of the Floor Test. BTC Chief Promod Boro, however, claims that they are not being kept against their will.

"They are not being kept against their will. They are being kept at a world class establishment. They are eating, drinking, and having a jolly good time overall," he stated, responding to a query by media.

Earlier today, BTC Chief Promod Boro, BJP Minister Pijush Hazarika, and GSP leader Naba Sarania have reached the Hotel Radisson Blu. Tensions are running high, as Hagrama Mohilary has appealed all the regional parties to unite against the BJP party.

"They were recently being taken to Dawki and then Shillong. They have not even been allowed to meet their families to prevent horse-trading. Basically, they are being moved from one hotel to the next," a source informed Inside Northeast.
