Assam Finance Minsiter and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, at a rally in Barpeta district in Assam, claimed that the reports of 2.5 Bangladeshis receiving the 'green signal' for citizenship in India after enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act is blatantly false.
At the same rally, Biswa Sarma also said that the BJP party would again form the Government after winning over 100 seats in the ensuing Assembly elections.
Pointing at the crowd, that evidently numbered in the thousands, Biswa Sarma thundered: "Do not be disheartened, BJP workers. Today, 50,000 have assembled to spread a message of peace". Biswa Sarma assured the supporters of the party that the saffron unit would again form the Government in the State.

He said that the reports of 1-2.5 cr illegal immigrants coming to India after passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is part of a 'misinformation' campaign by the BJP's opposition parties.
"These protests (against the CAA) will win the Guiness award for the biggest protests held on the basis of misinformation", the Minister mocked.
"They are already here in India -- they are already in Assam. Where will they come from? They came before 2014 during the reign of Tarun Gogoi", the Minister said.
Responding to the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and its stand against the CAA, Himanta said that their protest is legitimate, as they are protesting against the apparent violation of the 'Assam Accord'. "Their concerns can be resolved through dialogue", he said.
