New Delhi, March 2, 2019:
At a panel discussion at the 2019 India Today Conclave, Himanta Biswa Sarma defended himself upon being accused of playing ‘votebank politics’ and further reiterated his promise that the BJP and its NEDA allies will win 21 out of 25 seats in the Northeast.
India Today consulting editor stated that Biswa Sarma is playing ‘crass votebank politics’ and it will backfire on him and the BJP Government in Assam. Sardesai also expressed doubt over the BJP’s chances of winning 21 seats in the Northeast.
“I am winning 21 out of 25 seats, you can write that down.I have been saying that repeatedly. It is done”, said Biswa Sarma.
It is to be mentioned that the BJP lost a lot of popularity in the Northeast after it introduced the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 at the Lok Sabha which could not be passed at the Rajya Sabha because of continued protests against the Bill.
