BJP's Rajdeep Roy defeats Congress' Sushmita Dev in Silchar

Silchar, May 23, 2019:

Congress candidate and sitting Lok Sabha MP Sushmita Dev has been handed a bitter defeat in the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency by BJP's Rajdeep Roy.

Roy has won a total of 4,05,098, while the sitting MP Dev has won 'only' 3,38,508.

It may be mentioned that Dev came under fire for her support for the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill despite the Congress party's stand opposing the same.

Silchar is a Lok Sabha / Parliamentary constituency in Barak Valley region of Assam in North East India. This rural general constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 14.9% and a Scheduled Tribe population of 1.02%.
