Dibrugarh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Prasanta Phukan said that the five blasts that took place in his home constituency are a way of reestablishing the existence of terrorists in Assam.
“I feel today’s incident is a way of reestablishing the existence of terrorists in Assam. It can be anybody. It can be someone related to Sharjeel Imam as well, said Phukan, referring to the Shaheen Bagh protester who made the statement that Assam and Northeast should be cut off from India.

As many as five blasts were reported from several towns in Assam amid the ongoing Republic Day celebrations. Two blasts took place in Dibrugarh town of Assam at about 8 am today. According to reports, the wall of the school has been slightly damaged.
Prasanta Phukan said, “It’s unfortunate that on the occasion of Republic Day such incidents are happening. Some miscreants just want to prove their existence. Although the blasts are not that powerful, these were very unfortunate.”

The incidents have raised questions on the security of the people on the important day. However, the MLA said that the Police have provided adequate security. “The Police have been providing security since the past 24 hours. I don’t think it’s due to Police negligence. They cannot deploy security to each and every house. They have been offering their service very well,” he added. Two other blasts were also reported from Duliajan and Sonari.
