Guwahati, May 6, 2019:

A tragedy occurred on Saturday evening near Mazirgaon at the western part of Guwahati city in Assam. As a result of the heavy winds-cum-rain which impacted the region due to the severe cyclone 'Fani', a boat capsized in the mighty Brahmaputra.

Four persons survived the accident, but one person is still missing. Five farmers named Kanak Mazumdar, Arup Kalita, Jonmoni Mahanta, Ratneswar Das, and Naba Kalita were traveling back home in a boat when the bad weather conditions proved too much for the boat and it capsized. Although four were fortunate enough to escape the wrath of the river Gods, Naba Kalita was not so lucky.

The four survivors went to the Azara police station to intimate the authorities. Police, along with SDRF reached the spot, but have not been able to find Kalita. SDRF and NDRF continued searching for the missing person on Sunday but to no avail. Efforts are still on to locate the lost son of Assam, Naba Kalita.
