Guwahati, February 1, 2020:

3-time Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi on Saturday expressed that the newly inked Bodo 'peace pact' could bring turmoil instead of the intended peace in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Taking to Twitter earlier today, the veteran Congress leader stated that the pact, termed as "historic" by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, could cause more discord between the Bodos and the non-Bodos. "When this agreement was signed, the views of the non-Bodo people of the region were not taken. BTR may invite turmoil in Bodoland", Gogoi wrote.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania has called the Bodo peace pact a "political conspiracy" by the ruling BJP party to appease the resident Bodos ahead of the upcoming polls in the region.

“There is a possibility that there is a political conspiracy… At a time when the pact has been signed, within 2 months the Council elections would have been held. In the election, the Hagrama party or the BJP party was expected to lose. This seems like a move to swing the election..”, Sarania had said on the day of the signing of the Accord.
