Bodoland Territorial Region Celebrates Signing of Historic Accord

Kokrajhar, January 27, 2020:

Members of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), one of the key signatories of the Accord that has transformed the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) into the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), have started their celebrations after the inking of the historic pact between the Centre and the Bodo stakeholders.

At the head office office of the All Bodo Students' Union (named as 'Bodofa House'), the people from various sections of society came together and bonhomie and good cheer prevailed all around. Many of the student organization's members were also seen bursting firecrackers and faces beaming with joy were aplenty in the crowd, that mostly consisted of Bodo youths who had come out to celebrate the signing of the 'Accord'.

"We are very much excited...and we are enjoying here at the head office of the All Bodo Students' Union...all the sections of people are coming and they are enjoying. We hope that through this ahreement the demands of the Bodos and the different sectionsof people living within this Statehood area will get resolved", an ABSU member told Inside Northeast.

Meanwhile, people all across the Bodo-dominated region have taken to the streets and through colorful and vibrant displays filled with song and dance, have welcomed the Government's move to fulfill many of the community's long-standing demands. In Fakiragram, a huge rally was taken out by locals to celebrate the signing of the historic peace Accord.

It is pertinent to mention here that with, more administrative powers the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts will now be renamed to Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

The land rights, Bodo culture and language will be protected and five lakh compensation will be provided to the families of the people who died during the Bodo Andolan, informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the pact signing earlier today.
