Gossaigaon, March 2, 2019:
The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) have staged a mass protest in Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district on Saturday demanding a resolution to the ‘Bodoland issue’ from the BJP administration led by Narendra Modi. Led by ABSU President Pramod Bodo, people of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area took to the streets in huge numbers in order to express dissatisfaction with the Government’s handling of the sensitive issue.
Bodo condemned the BJP administration for not resolving the Bodoland issue despite making a promise to do so before the election. “In five years, they have played political games and did not take the issue forward. The Government’s rule has almost come to an end and since they cheated us, we will have to take revenge. We are starting various events to put pressure on the Govt to resolve the issue and if it is not resolved, they will face dire consequences”, he added.

Addressing the media from the protest venue, Bodo said: “I would like to pay tribute to the founder of the ‘Bodoland struggle’ Upendranath Brahma and also to the 5,000 plus Bodo martyrs of the Bodoland freedom struggle and I want to express my condolences to their families. As long as Bodoland is not given, the struggle will continue. We demand a separate state as per the Articles 1 and 2 of the Indian Constitution where we Bodos can think about our development, a state where our language, culture, land and political rights will be safeguarded.”
