DHUBRI: The body of a teenager was dug out of the grave by the police after fourteen hours in Assam's Dhubri district yesterday.

The incident has been reported from Baraibari, Block-V (Roumari Para) village under Gauripur police station in Dhubri.

The victim was a 16-year-old girl, who allegedly committed suicide in the absence of her family members in the house.

According to sources, the 16-year-old had gone to a relative's house with her parents but had left them and returned to her own residence with one of her friends.

Villagers said that the victim's body was not trapped, but rather lay on the paved floor of the storage area.

The body of the dead was subsequently buried at a nearby cemetery with the assistance of a group of villagers, without informing the police.

On receiving a complaint in connection with the incident a police team, as well as the members of village defence parties (VDP) arranged to guard the graveyard site.

Later, District magistrate, Abhijit Gogoi reached the spot and dug up the grave with the help of some locals and recover the body of the teenager, and sent it to Dhubri Civil Hospital for postmortem examination.

The true mystery behind the teen's death will most likely be revealed only after the postmortem report is completed.
