Bollywood Diva Yami Gautam "Insults" Assamese 'Gamusa'

Guwahati, March 1, 2020:

Merely days after the hosting of the Filmfare Awards in Guwahati, Yami Gautam, renowned Bollywood diva, has been condemned for "insulting" the venerable Assamese garment.

Today, the star was reportedly greeted with a 'gamusa' at the LGBI Airport in Guwahati. Footage shows a masked Gautam, who had arrived at the Airport, being greeted by a gamusa by "fan". However, Gautam, who perhaps did not want to be recognized, shoved away the gamusa.

Gautam has reportedly come to Guwahati to participate in the 'The Great Guwahati Marathon' 2020, a charitable event to be held in Khanapara, Assam.

The turn-of-events is even more surprising as Gautam has previously been known to express her love and admiration for the 'gamusa' while talking to the press.

This event comes merely days after the hosting of the Filmfare in Guwahati, which drew flak as protests against the Government's Citizenship (Amendment) Act have been going on in full swing. Several actors and artists from Assam, including the intellectual community, boycotted the ceremony, and chided the Government for its "insensitivity".

Tensions came to a head on the day of the awards when Manas Robin, a prominent singer from Assam, visited the airport -- reportedly to seek Bollywood's support in opposing the CAA. However, Robin was not allowed to meet the stars, and was apprehended by the authorities, who detained him at the neighboring Azara Police Station.
