Breaking: 1 More COVID-19 Case Detected in Assam, Total Rises to 30Manipur

Dispur, April 13, 2020:

A man from from Dhubi earlier today has tested positive for the new coronavirus, Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed. With this, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the State has risen to 30.

The Minister has said that this person too is linked to the Nizamuddin Markaz congregation that was held in New Delhi in March 2020.

Taking to twitter earlier in the morning today, Sarma wrote, "Another person from Dhubri, connected with Tablighi Jamaat meet at Nizamuddin Markaz, has been found COVID-19 positive. The total number of Covid patients in Assam now stands at 30."

This is the 2nd positive case that has been reported from the Northeast in the last 24 hours. This development has been reported a day after the State of Nagaland reported its first case of the COVID-19.

The break-up of the COVID-19 cases in the NE region is as follows:

Assam has reported 30 cases;

Manipur and Tripura have reported 2 cases each;

Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have reported a single case of the virus each.

Meghalaya and Sikkim are the only states from the region which are yet to report a single case of the COVID-19 virus.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India have now crossed 9,000 while the death toll has now gone past 300. The govt is now considering expanding test for corona even to areas that have not reported any cases as of yet.

It may be mentioned here that the next 3-4 weeks will be critical to determine the impact of steps taken till now to curb spread of the virus, Prime MInister Narendra Modi told chief ministers on COVID-19 fight. Four states, meanwhile, have extended the lockdown period till April 30.
