Breaking: 1 More COVID-19 Positive Case in Assam's North Lakhimpur, Total Rises to 25meghalaya

Guwahati, April 4, 2020:

Assam has reported another COVID-19 positive case from North Lakhimpur, taking the total number to 25.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this case was also linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz.

More details awaited about the COVID-19 patient. It may be mentioned here that Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday night confirmed that 3 more people tested positive for COVID-19. This was relayed by the Minister via a tweet that was posted on his official handle.

According to the Minister, 2 out of the 3 cases have links to the Nizamuddin Markaz congregation held in New Delhi in March last. Another person from Golaghat district tested positive minutes after the fresh 3 cases, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the State to 24.

Earlier yesterday, Biswa Sarma, via Twitter, had announced 4 more positive cases of the virus. Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that four more patients have tested positive for the coronavirus: 3 from Nalbari and 1 of the patients from South Salmara district. The Assam Minister had said that all 4 cases are associated with the Nizamuddin Markaz incident.

The Delhi-based headquarter of Tablighi Jamaat, an evangelical Muslim sect, in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area has emerged as the new hotspot for coronavirus infection, thereby posing as a threat across the country.

Attendees from Indonesia, Malaysia, Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal, Meghalaya had participated in the Tablighi Jamaat annual congregation amid the nationwide lockdown. According to reports, 24 out of these have tested positive for COVID-19 and 200 others have shown symptoms of the virus. As many as 1,400 people are believed to have been exposed to the virus now.
