Guwahati, April 3, 2020:
Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has just announced that as many as 4 more people have tested positive for the new coronavirus or COVID-19 that has infected over a million worldwide. With the earlier 16 detections, the total number of positive cases in Assam has now risen to 20.
Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that four more patients have tested positive for the coronavirus -- 3 are from Nalbari and 1 of the patients is from South Salmari district. The Assam Minister has said that all 4 cases are associated with the Nizamuddin Markaz incident.
This information has been confirmed merely days after the state reported its first confirmed case of the corona, a 52-year old businessman from Karimganj district who has been admitted at the Silchar Medical College (SMC). Additionally, the first patient is also said to be suffering from cancer.
Subsequently, the Government has confirmed 15 more cases, taking the total tally to 16. Others orginating from the state who are currently living elsewhere are also said to have tested negative.
It has been claimed by the administration that all who tested positive had been to the corona hotspot of Nizamuddin Markaz, where preachers are said to have brought the virus from Indonesia.
Meanwhile, after the confirmation of the first case in Assam, two cases have also been registered in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. Both cases reportedly have links to the Nizamuddin Markaz incident.
Meanwhile, 61 more people have been tested in Arunachal, and they have all tested negative in their first results. 18 more results are awaited.
In Tripura, meanwhile, 26 have been identified when attended the congregation and they have all tested negative so far. However, they will only be released after a subsequent series of texts.
