Guwahati, April 9, 2020:

Another positive case of the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 has been reported from Assam, this time again from Dhubri district, taking the toll to 29. This latest patient is also said to have links with the Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed about the positive case through his Twitter handle. "Alert ~ A person from Dhubri, who was in contact with a positive patient (with Markaz linkage) from the same district, has been confirmed as

It may be mentioned here that out of 29 positive cases, 27 are Nizamuddin Markaz attendees. Earlier today Sarma informed that the 28th positive case reported from the state, has a travel history to Saudi Arabia, it has been confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Hailakandi administration has declared Borjurai village, the area where the COVID-19 positive patient resided, as a containment zone to arrest further spread of the coronavirus with immediate effect.

In an order issued by Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli, the Borjurai village has been sealed under the Assam COVID-19 Containment Regulation, 2020. Strict perimeter control has been enforced in the containment zone demarcating clear entry and exit points. “The containment measures will shut down everything barring essential services,” the order stated.

It may be mentioned here that India, with rising cases of coronavirus, is in talks of extending the lockdown to contain the spread. On April 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be consulting with the Chief Ministers on the possible extension and matters related to the lockdown.
