Guwahati, 13 January 2019:
Assam BJP, in a notification issued today, suspended Pradip Dutta Roy from the party membership and ended all association with him for his controversial remarks against students of Assam University and threatening them for protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
On the January 10, Roy had said “Few Khilonjiya (indigenous) students have protested against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Assam University where I have protested for ten years under ACKSHA. Despite of opposing AASU and AGP, the university was snatched away from us. The Assamese students union protesting this Bill within this university is highly criticisable, they are Barak’s enemy."
"I have approached the Vice- Chancellor of the university to take action against those students, who have protested against this Bill. I don’t know what role the Vice-Chancellor played yesterday. I warn the Assamese students that you come to study so do your work, don’t try to poke into the politics or else I will be force to prohibit Assamese student from getting admission in this university," he further added.
These statements of the former student leader with an aim to create rift between the students in the University had threaten the unity between people of Brahmaputra and Barak valley. His remarks and act was highly criticized by all the learned people of Assam.
An FIR was lodged against Pradip Dutta Roy by Durnitibirudhi Oikya Mancha at Golaghat police station on January 11.
