In yet another breakthrough in the Guwahati grenade blast which injured as many as twelve persons, the Golaghat Police on Friday detained one former cadre of the rebel group, United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I).
The detained cadre has been identified as Amit Ballav Goswami alias Bijoy Asom who hails from Lakhibari in Golaghat district.
The former cadre used to manufacture bombs and detonators for the proscribed group.
It is to be mentioned that a grenade blast took place in Zoo Road on Wednesday evening at around 7:45 pm, in which 12 people, including two SSB personnel, were injured. The militant group ULFA-I has claimed for it minutes after the blast.
The Guwahati Police on Thursday arrested United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) pro-talks leader Pranamoy Rajguru and Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia in relation to the blast and they will be presented in the court today.
The duo were arrested on Thursday from Namghar Path in Panjabari locality of Guwahati, Assam during a search operation carried out by a team of city police and crime branch in relation to the grenade blast at Guwahati’s Zoo Road.
Pranamoy Rajguru is being lodged at the Latasil Police Station and Jahnavi Saikia at Pan Bazar Women's Police Station.
The police recovered one 9mm pistol, 35 rounds of live bullets, and 70 kg of explosive materials which was used to make IEDs, a ULFA-I flag, and a scooty allegedly used during the blast and some incriminating documents from the possession of Jahnabi Saikia.
During the time of arrest, Pranamoy Rajguru said, "our fight will continue till our demands are fulfilled. The Government should know that these activities will continue. May our struggle live long.”
