GUWAHATI: Topon Kumar Gogoi, BJP leader who represents Jorhat Constituency in the Lok Sabha, has become the latest political bigwig from Assam to test COVID-19 positive.
According to reports, Gogoi's sample was taken when he had gone to check the preparations ahead of a prime minister Narendra Modi pre-election rally.
Earlier in September last year, Gogoi tested positive for Covid-19 and was administered plasma at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after his condition became a bit critical.
It needs mention here that Gogoi has been present at several BJP election rallies in the recent past, which has raised concerns about him possibly transmitting the pathogen to other rallygoers.
So far, 2,16,036 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in Assam, out of which 269 casesa are active. 1,091 patients passed away due to COVID-19 related complications.

To boost the momentum of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign in poll-bound Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state today to address an election rally in Chabua constituency.
PM Modi will arrive at Chabua airport in his special aircraft at 2.35 pm. He will then leave for the meeting venue by chopper at 2.40 pm and reach at 3 pm. He will address the gathering at 3.20 pm before flying back to New Delhi from Jorhat airport.
