KOKRAJHAR: United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Promod Boro was today sworn in as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in a lavish ceremony attended by thousands in the administrative headquarter of the

Gobinda Basumatary, formerly the leader of the pro-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland was also sworn in an EM. Gautam Das, Ghanshyam Das, and Diganta Baruah are the other MCLAs who have also been sworn in during today's ceremony.

According to Inside Northeast sources, around 2-2.5 lakh people are attending the swearing in of the new Executive Council members at Kokrajhar, with traditional Boro music and dances being performed at the venue.

The Promod Boro led BJP-GSP-BJP Council will be sworn in today after high voltage elections in the Council, which saw a see-saw battle between the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and the BJP-BPF 'combine'. All the key players of all the parties are present at the occasion.

As many as 5 members of the new Council -- including the Chief Eecutive Member Boro will take oath today.

Earlier, Assam Governor Jagadish Mukhi, who took charge of the Council after the polls were deferred due to the corona, accepted the claims towards the formation of the new Executive council to BTC with UPPL President Pramod Bodo as the new Chief of BTC in response to the formal request made by the elected members of the UPPL, BJP, and Gana Suraksha Party, as a post-poll coalition.

Meanwhile, the BPF, which emerged as the single-largest party at the end of the elections, stated that the party is planning to move the Court. The BPF leadership had earlier appealed to the BJP to help it form the Council. The party had been ruling the Bodoland Territorial Council since its formation in 2003.

A total of 23,87,422 voters in the two phases exercised their franchise to elect their representatives for the local council, formed in 2003 and elections being held since 2005.
