GUWAHATI: In a significant development, Pradeep Kumar, a man who had written the JEE exam on behalf of Assam topper Neel Nakshatra Das, has been arrested by Assam Police and is being brought to Guwahati.

"Accused Pradeep Kumar, who had actually written the examination on behalf of the candidate Neel Nakshatra Das, in the JEE examination impersonation case has been arrested in Delhi and is being brought to Guwahati. A team of Guwahati police led by ADCP was deputed to Delhi for the arrest," officials informed.

According to reports, the proxy candidate of State JEE (Mains) 'topper' Neel Nakshatra Das had appeared in the examination at the 'Ion Digital Centre' at Borjhar.
Due to the mandatory face masks worn by the candidates, it was not possible to specifically identify the proxy candidate during the JEE exam.

The proxy JEE (Mains) candidate continued to give Azara Police the slip even as an FIR to this effect was lodged way back on October 23, 2020.
The investigators nabbed many persons involved in the entrance test scam including the candidate, his father, and many employees of a counseling centre.
