GUWAHATI: The speaker of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary yesterday announced that Assam is going to have the world's first ever bronze statue of Mwnsinsin Bwrai.

Mwnsinsin Bwrai is a guru in Bathouism, an ethnic religion of the Bodo or Kachari people, who has not been iconised anywhere in the world before.

"I feel that idolization of our gurus is important. Else towards whom people would look up to? Something tangible is required to encourage people. Hence I came up with the idea of having a statue of him last year itself," said Daimary.

Speaker Biswajit Daimary had built the first public worship place for Bathou in Baksa district's tourist hotspot Bogamati in January of 2020.

"That time we did not have enough money. Hence we just put up a statue of our Guru Mwnsinsin Bwrai made of cement. This year I am thinking of a bronze statue," Daimary expressed.

Daimary reached Bogamati yesterday at Bathou thansali to offer his prayers to the almighty.

"I have achieved a lot in my political career. I have been fortunate enough to be Rajya Sabha MP twice. Now I have become the speaker of the assembly. Hence I have arrived here to seek blessings from our guru so he could provide me a greater vision to perform my responsibilities," Daimary said.
