The Government has declared a public holiday in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) on February 7, the day when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Kokrajhar to celebrate the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord, which he has termed as "historic."

A communique issued from the Assam Governor's office reads thus, "The Governor of Assam is pleased to declared 7th February, 2020, as a public holiday in view of celebration of Bodo Accord. In the districts of BTAD -- Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri -- for enabling participation of people. All Government offices within the jurisdiction of above-mentioned districts will remain closed on that day."

Meanwhile, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reached Kokrajhar to review preparations ahead of the Prime Minister's visit, which will be his first to the State since the enactment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act which sparked protests across the length and breadth of Assam. Taking to Twitter, Biswa Sarma, posted pictures of the site inspection alongwith the caption, "Reviewed preparations for celebrations of Bodo Accord on 7 Feb in Kokrajhar with Minister Pijush Hazarika, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Tuliram Ronghang, MP Biswajit Daimary, Minister Chandan Brahma, & ABSU leaders. We are excited to welcome Hon PM PM Sri Narendra Modi to this historic event..."
