Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) president Hagrama Mohilary on Friday said that if Bihar assembly elections can be held than why not Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. Mohilary demanded that the BTC elections be held by October this year.

Mohilary also lamented the renaming of the BTC as Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) saying it  as violation of model code of conduct. He added that the BPF will take legal help against renaming of BTC. He expressed confidence that the BPF will win majority of seats in the BTC elections.

On the other hand, United Peoples’ Party Liberal president Pramod Boro welcomed the renaming of BTC. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Governor of Assam Prof Jagadish Mukhi for taking bold step to implement the BTR accord clauses.

Boro who is one of signatories of the BTR accord said that the accord is going to be implemented one by one in the days to come.

Bodo also thanked all the four factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland, All Bodo Students’ Union and United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) leaders for the accord implementation.

Boro also urged the centre to make cent percent implementation of the BTR accord.
