BTC chief continues war-of-words with BPF leader Pramila; here's what he said

TAMULPUR: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Promod Boro today lashed out at former minister Pramila over her alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the run-up to the election.

Boro, who cast his ballot at the Souraguri Higher Secondary School earlier today, told media persons that an "attack was carried out in front of Pramila."

He was referencing the recent incident in which several hundred BPF party workers were herded out of Pramila's house days before the election would be held.

"She has violated the Model Code of Conduct and we want the Election Commission to take action her. We want the election in the third phase to be conducted peacefully."

On the other hand, Pramila Rani Brahma today accused the United People’s Party-Liberal (UPPL) of distributing cash among voters and alleged the Assam Police was helping in the process.

“I was in a strong position till yesterday. However, some developments took place last evening after which I am a little worried. Our party workers have reported that UPPL supporters were distributing cash in villages and urban areas as well. They demanded that I should also do so. But, I refused and reported the matter to the police," she said after casting her ballot.

Asked about the controversy over Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) candidate Rangja Basumatary, who quit the party days before the polls before going on to join the BJP, Boro said, “It is his personal matter and I cannot opine on that and he has to decide for himself what is wrong and what is right. He has probably taken this decision with due consideration, for which I congratulate him wholeheartedly.”

Exuding confidence of forming the next government, Boro “People have decided that they will choose the candidates AGP-BJP-UPPL as there is no other alternative. The Mahajot, which was depicted as the alternative, did not have face value. Nor the Congress, nor the AIUDF, or the BPF -- none of them have the face value.”

The BTC chief further went on to assert that the people will choose the BJP-led alliance to “resolve the regional issues, flood problems, and to build up Assam as one of the most developed states in India.”

A total of 79,19,641 voters, including 40,11,539 males, 39,07,963 females and 139 transgenders, will exercise their franchise at 11,401 polling stations, including 1814 auxilaries. The voters also include two overseas, 26,460 service voters and 13,389 senior citizens postal voters.
