Guwahati, March 18, 2019:

While other parties are planning election strategies for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections 2019, BPF leader and BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary already has his sights set on the future. Thanking BJP President Amit Shah for the “fulfilment of the promises made by the Honorable Prime Minister during the last Assam Assembly elections”, the BTC Chief raised another set of demands which he feels have been overlooked by the NDA Government for the “betterment and development of the people of BTC as well as Assam.”

Firstly, Hargrama has demanded the inclusion of Bodo and Karbi people in the list of Scheduled Tribes and the passage of the ‘Scheduled Tribes Amendment Bill, 2016’ immediately after the General Elections.

Secondly, Hagrama has appealed to the NDA Government to grant ST status to the six agitating communities of Assam, namely, the Moran, Motok, Tai-Ahom, Chutiya, Koch-Rajbongshi, and Tea Tribes provided that the rights and privileges of the existing STs are not harmed in the process.

Thirdly, Hagrama has appealed Shah to recognize the flood problem of Assam as a ‘national problem’ and added that the problem requires the intervention of the Central Government and requires a National Policy.

Fourthly, Hagrama has sought the Government to find a permanent solution to the ULFA and NDFB problem and urged the Government to bring all factions of the groups inside the peace talk process.

Fifthly, Hagrama has sought the introduction of a helicopter service in Kokrajhar to provide easier access to the rest of the country in case of emergencies.

Sixthly, the BTC Chief has urged the NDA to construct bridges over the rivers Beki and Pagladia and the lack of bridges in the area affects the trade, commerce, and economy of the region.

Lastly, Hagrama Mohilary has demanded the NDA to construct a highway from Jamduar to Bhairabkunda as per a commitment in the Bodo Accord.

Now it remains to be seen whether the NDA Government takes up these issues highlighted by the BTC Chief if voted back into power.
