Bodoland Territorial Chief (BTC) Hagrama Mohilary and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Hagrama Mohilary on Monday filed his nomination papers to contest from the Deborgaon constituency in Kokrajhar district in the much-awaited BTC elections, which are scheduled on April 4, 2020.
Along with the party leader, four other candidates of the BPF have also filed their nominations to the Returning Officer.
Mohilary said, “Yes, today I have filed my nomination. I will be contesting from Kokrajhar’s Deborgaon constituency. Rajib Brahma from Banargaon, Doneshwar Gayari from Baokhungri and Derhasat Basumatry from Salakati have also submitted their nomination papers. The process went smoothly and we expect 25-30 seats out of the 40 seats with the help of alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Our competition will be with the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and with nobody else.”
He further said that the novel coronavirus should not impact the nominations. “There will be dedicated development board for each and every community residing in BTC,” informed Mohilary.
“If we look at the supporters who have come out today, it is huge. If this is maintained, we are sure to win. Nobody will be able to defeat us with these supporters on our side,” said Rajib Brahma, who will contest from Banargaon.
“With the support of the people, we will win and work towards our motto – peace, prosperity and development. I don’t think there is any competition. We have the support. We will win for sure. There is no tension at all,” he added.
Kajalgaon constituency candidate from BPF, Paniram Brahma has also filed his nomination today. “I will be successful and then will work for the people. We will start campaigning from today onwards,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that the BTC elections are due on April 4. The last date for filing nominations is March 18 and the deadline for withdrawal of nominations is March 21.
Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF is confident of being reelected in power. On Sunday Mohilary made predictions that rivals United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and Naba Sarania-led Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) will draw blank in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
While speaking with mediapersons, Hagrama said, “UPPL and Naba Sarania are sure to draw NIL votes in the BTC elections,” adding, “I am 100 percent sure of forming the alliance with BJP and AGP. BPF-BJP-AGP will form the government.”
It needs mention here that the parties and leaders of BTC have geared up for the upcoming BTC elections. Several members have swapped parties as well. Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been preparing for the elections. While the campaigns have begun in full swing, leaders have expressed full confidence of emerging as the winners.
Meanwhile, the joining of the leaders of the disbanded National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has come up as the highlight of BTC elections. BR Ferenga and Gobinda Basumatary have joined hands with the UPPL with a promise to defeat the “demons of BTC politics”. Former All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) leader Pramod Boro also joined the UPPL to contest in the elections.
