Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kr. Sarania on Thursday announced that the upcoming BTC elections, scheduled to be held in 2020, might be delayed.

It will not be held in February-March, but is likely to be delayed by 6 months. Sarania also said that the current administration is trying to increase the number of seats in the Council elections from 40 to 60. "The added seats will be given to Rajbongshis and other tribes", he said.

Sarania further said that the election might be held in November or December of 2020. "We are ready to contest the election at a short moment's notice of 24 hours. 300 candidates are at the ready to contest from the party", he said.

The Lok Sabha MP further charged that the Hagrama Mohilary led BPF party is parading Dhiren Boro front and centre, as the Gobinda Basumatary-led faction refuses to cooperate. "They have the support of the BJP, and they also want the BPF to form the Government in the BTAD", he said.

Kokrajhar’s Lok Sabha MP Naba Kr. Sarania on September 22 formed his political party which is expected to be a strong contender in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. The party, which has been christened the People’s Protection Army (PPA), was officially launched in Assam’s Pathsala today.
