BTC residents will no longer fear 'dadagiri' of BPF, says Promod Boro

 

KOKRAJHAR: Newly-elected Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Promod Boro today said that the people residing in the 4 districts will no longer fear the muscle power of the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and that the party will not win a single seat in the ensuing polls.

 

Taking digs at the rival Bodoland People's Front party, Boro said, "For many years, they have been insulting the people and cheating them. People now want change. A new government has been elected -- weapons are being elected. People will no longer fear these people. They only have dadagiri and money. They have never worked for the well being of the people. That is why, they will not be able to win a single seat in the ensuing Assembly polls."

Speaking about Amit Shah's visit to Chirang district today, Boro said, "He came on a personal mission and left after completing his work."

 

After meeting Koch leader Ananta Rai, Shah left for Cooch Behar district in West Bengal, primarily populated by the Koch-Rajbongshi community. Shah visited the Koch-Rajbongshi leader reportedly to garner support for the polls in the states of Assam and West Bengal.

 

It needs mention here that former General Secretary of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and one of the signatories of the BTR accord, Lawrence Islary, along with at least 2,000 members, today joined the UPPL at a grand joining ceremony held at Kangklabada in Kokrajhar.

 

It needs mention here that the new BTC council was formed by the BJP-UPPL-GSP with 22 members. UPPL had won 12 seats, GSP won one seat, BJP had won nine seats in the BTC.

 

The lone elected member from the Congress and another from the BPF defected to the BJP later to join the UPPL-led alliance.

 

BPF had emerged as the single largest party with 17 seats for the 40-member Council but BJP took the lead to form the Council with support from UPPL and GSP.

 

The BPF, which is a constituent of Assam’s BJP-headed coalition government, ruled BTC for 17 years since its formation in 2003 as a political solution to the Bodo agitation for a separate state.
