KAJALGAON: Ahead of the counting of votes in the district for 31-Sidli (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), Dr. LR Bishnoi, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), on Friday visited Chirang district to take stock of the security arrangement in the district.

He also inspected the security position of the strong room, where polled EVMs were kept in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, Chirang and Returning Officer for Sidli (ST) LAC Gautam Talukdar, Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh and Election Officer Partha Pratim Baruah.

Expressing his satisfaction over the three-tier tight security arrangement in the strong room, the IGP said that the police department would take all possible measures in order to maintain law and order for smooth conduct of counting of votes slated to be held on May 2.

While Returning Officer Gautam Talukdar said that on May 2, the counting of votes in Chirang district would be conducted by observing all the precautionary measures laid down by the Election Commission of India against coronavirus.

He also added that they would arrange for compulsory corona test for all officials, counting personnel, including counting agents of contesting candidates prior to their entry to counting venue so as to sack the spread of coronavirus.

Sudhakar Singh, Superintendent of Police apprised that in the district, the strong rooms located at Kajalgaon and Bijni for 31-Sidli (ST) and 33- Bijni LACs respectively were being guarded by the three-tier security force.

"I have already ordered all our field officers to be active and strict during the counting day so that no bad elements could create any unwanted situation in the district."

Meanwhile, Chirang election district has geared up its preparation for smooth counting of votes in the district for 31- Sidli (ST) LAC.

So far it has already appointed 72 counting personnel with 20 percent reserve as counting supervisor, counting assistant, and micro observer and decided to impart training on April 27, 28, and 29 in the conference hall of the Deputy commissioner’s office at Kajalgaon.

It has also prepared two counting halls at its designated counting venue- district parade ground, Kajalgaon for setting up of 10 tables each.
