Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday condemned Union Minister Amit Shah for his assertion that the Centre would bring the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the near future.
Condemning Shah and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Akhil said, "Shah has now announced that Hindu foreigners will now be granted citizenship once the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill become law.."
"The Bill will most likely be enacted, as the ruling BJP has majority in both the Upper as well as Lower Houses. Thus, this time, opposing the Bill will not only be difficult, it will be damn near impossible", he further added.

Akhil called upon all the Assamese people, the civil society organizations, student bodies, et al, to come together to oppose the Bill through democratic protests. Gogoi once again urged the masses to come together to protest against the allegedly 'jati destroying' Bill and join the protests against the same.
Accusing the ruling BJP party of ascribing to a communal ideology, Gogoi said that the CAB is their greatest attempt to establish a 'Hindu rashtra'. "This Bill is sure to harm the Article 14 of our Constitution, and secularism will be a thing of the past", warned Gogoi.

"There are 20 lakh Hindu Bangladeshi Hindus in Assam, and they will be immediately granted citizenship once the Bill is enacted", Gogoi further added.
Yesterday, during a rally in Bengal, Shah had affirmed that that the CAB would be passed in Bengal to give citizenship to Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Jain refugees. After that, Shah said, the NRC would be implemented in Bengal, with the purpose of identifying and deporting "illegal spies".

It is pertinent to mention here that Gogoi's KMSS, along with 71 other indigenous organizations had held democratic protests against the CAB after the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on January 8. The sustained protests of the various organizations of the Northeast eventually led to the Bill's lapse in the Rajya Sabha, as the ruling party did not want to risk upsetting regional sentiments ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
