Many organizations came together to hold protests against the amendment of the Citizenship Bill in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
The Tai-Ahom organization, Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation, Gorkha Makum district Students’ Organization, the ‘Sammalit Sangrami Manch’, Makum Bengali Samaj as well as many other organizations came together to raise their collective voices against the Bill as well as denounce the current administration.
National Highway 37 in Makum was, in fact, blocked by the huge crowd that had gathered for the protest. The protestors raised slogans against the BJP Government.
“Today the Nepali, Bengali, Bihari societies have come out to demand the scrapping of the Bill. They (the Government) have said it won’t be raised, but they have not said that it will be scrapped” said a protestor and added that they will continue the protests until the Bill is scrapped.
