GUWAHATI: Campaign for the first phase of Assam assembly elections, scheduled for March 27, came to an end at 6 pm today.

According to Election Commission of India guidelines, campaign ends 48 hours before polling ends in a constituency.

During the period, no one can convene, hold, attend, enter or address any public meeting, procession, or display election material on television or other similar apparatus, according to the ECI.

“The outcome of any exit or opinion poll conducted shall not be written, publicised or disseminated in any manner by print, electronic or any other media at any time within the 48 hours before with the hour fixed for the poll's end,” ECI said.

In the first phase of Assam assembly elections, 264 candidates are in the fray in 47 constituencies.

There are a total of 81,09,815 general electors in the first round of voting. There are 40,77,210 males, 40,32,481 females, and 124 transgenders among them.
