Guwahati, September 15, 2019:

The train checking staff of Guwahati city have seized a huge consignment of the outlawed intoxicant cannabis and arrested a person in that regard.

Early in the morning on Sunday at around 6.55 am, the train checking party of Guwahati GRPS apprehended one person, namely Bhaskar Baruah (aged 23), for allegedly carrying marijuana. The accused is a resident of Marioni in Jorhat district of Assam.

Baruah was reportedly nabbed along with 5 kilos of suspected cannabis valued at Rs. 40,000 from train no 12423 Down Rajdhani Express Train (Seat no. 43, Coach no. B-8). Authorities have reported that he was arrested while waiting at Platform number 1 of the Guwahati railway station. Legal formalities in this regard are being initiated.

Cannabis is one of the most common intoxicants which is found in Assam, and is being sold by many dealers across the city. The Assam Police however, has stepped up their war against this common intoxicant in recent months.
