KOKRAJHAR: Two cannabis traders were shot by police in Kokrajhar who were trying to prevent their escape.
The cannabis traders have been identified as Rahmatullah Khan from Karbi Anglong district, and Ramesh Kumar from Rajasthan's Churu district.
Both cannabis traders were sustained leg injuries in the incident, which occurred late last night around 1.30 am when they were taken to Alangi Tiniali under Bishmuri police station in Kokrajhar for spot interrogation. They had allegedly attempted to flee in the dark, prompting police officials to open fire.

Later, police admitted both the traders to Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital for medical treatment, but the doctor referred them to Barpeta Medical College for better treatment.
Earlier, they were arrested by a team of Kokrajhar police led by SP Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar in Srirampur on the Assam-Bengal border when they were transporting the cannabis to Uttar Pradesh's Hajipur from Karbi Anglong's Lahoroganj.

Police have also seized 850 kg cannabis worth Rs approximately 1 crore from their possession and a truck bearing registration number NL 06AA, 0430
"We've got some names and connections, and we're looking into the situation. Our team is working on it," SP Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar said, adding, "We're in contact with other state and district police departments to break their connection."
