The students’ society has filed a case at the 'Assam Human Rights Commission' that was reported against the assault on the protesting students on December 11 while they joined the “Dispur Chalo” to oppose the implementation of Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
The case has been file against the ‘lathi charge, and blank firing’ on the students, including girls, by police personnel. The case was filed by Cotton University and Dispur Law College students.
The Assam state Human Rights Commission also registered a case by itself against the alleged assaults with Case no. 2791 of 19- 29 (0).
The complainants said that many students have been suffering since the lathi charge that was exercised by the police, and claimed that even girl students were not spared by the personnel.
Terming it as a "political conspiracy" against the peaceful protest carried out by the students, the complainants also slammed the state government and Assam police for shooting down 17-year-old student Sam Stafford in Hatigaon under the cover of darkness.
They also mentioned that they have collected visual proof and paper-cuttings to support their complaint and thanked the media fraternity for the support.
