Guwahati, January 28, 2019:

The Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organisations of Assam (CCTOA) organized a ‘Citizens Convention’ at Lakhiram  Barua Sadan on January 24 in order to address the concern of granting ST status to the six agitating communities of Assam.

The organization has made four demands to the central Government:

Firstly, the withdrawal of ‘The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes’ Order

(Amendment) Bill 2019’ from the house of Rajya Sabha in order to safeguard the constitutional Rights of Scheduled Tribes of Assam in particular and India in general.

Secondly, CCTOA demands that instead of granting ST status to 6 OBC communities, they should be provided with appropriate and adequate governmental support within their own reservation quota.

Thirdly, the CCTOA demands the immediate call for a Tripartite Talk with Union Home Minister, Chief Minister of Assam and CCTOA before the next Parliament session.

The fourth demand is the withdrawal of recommendations made by Assam Government and BTC administrations for granting ST status to 6 communities.
