After the Cabinet Committee’s decisions came up on Wednesday for implementing Clause 6 of the Assam Accord and Bodo issues, a state-wide reaction has been evoked among the people against the Centre.

Meanwhile, the central government also has not come up with any decision, despite constant demand for Schedule Tribe status to the six indigenous communities (Tai Ahom, Tea Tribes, Koch-Rajbongshi, Chutia, Moran and Matak) in Assam over the years.
Speaking to InsideNE, President of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Dipankar Kumar Nath alleged that the centre has prepared a blueprint of a new conspiracy against the people of Assam by amending the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
He said, “Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the Cabinet Committee is planning to betray the people by making announcements on subjects that was discussed with the AASU, state government and the central government in April 2017 with a new twist. This is because there are only three months left for the election whereas, to amend the Clause 6 of Assam Accord will take a minimum of two year and within such short span of time nothing is possible. It is just a political propaganda before the election. Since AASU is the pioneer of the Assam Accord and without discussing with the AASU nothing will go ahead, we have demanded the central government not to betray the Asomiya people again. If the decision was made four years back, we would have accepted it.”
While asked on providing ST status to the six indigenous community, he said that whatever they are discussing at this time will not be implemented eventually because of the very limited time-frame.
