Government interlocutor AB Mathur has signaled at the imminent signing of ‘peace agreements’ between the Centre and the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), along with three other militant groups hailing from Assam.
While speaking at a book launch event, Mathur said that he is hopeful that the Centre will sign peace agreements with the militant groups in the next three months.
He also informed that the Centre’s talks have been progressing "satisfactorily" with the insurgent outfits in Assam.
The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), Karbi group and the Kuki group are the three other militant outfits that are said to be on the verge of signing a "peace deal".
According to reports, the ULFA's response to Mathur's announcement has been "positive". The group has said that all the issues, except the main issue of granting constitutional safeguards to the State’s indigenous people, have been resolved.
