KOHIMA: A group of concerned students from across the Northeast Indian region of Indian has kickstarted an initiative to get the government of India to include a section on the Northeastern Indian region in the NCERT textbooks that are followed by the CBSE schools.

The Nagaland University Students' Union NUSU (L) president Hipito Achumi today issuing a communique informed that "various student organizations and universities from the length and breadth of Northeast India are initiating a Twitter storm with the motive of requesting the government of India to include a section in the Northeastern chapter in the NCERT textbooks."

This demand seems to have surfaced amid increasing acts of violence and racial discrimination against people from the Northeast with distinct Mongoloid features.

"Starting from facial abuse to racial abuse, even to the extent of accusing us of being Chinese is not a new topic. Many incidents from the past and till today are provident enough of the negligible information that the mainland Indians have on the 8 states of Northeast India," Achumi further stated in his communique.

It needs mention here that Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested YouTuber Paras Singh after a case was registered against him for allegedly making a racial slur against Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering, a senior police officer said here. He was also charged with inciting ill will and hatred towards the people of the northeastern state.

Ludhiana Police, under close monitoring of Arunachal Police, arrested Singh after tracing his whereabouts as he was on the run since Monday, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Chuku Apa told reporters.

A closer inspection of the internet has revealed that several YouTubers have been using slurs against the Northeast Indian people.
