Centre would stop releasing development funds in case the public did not vote for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the ongoing panchayat election twhich has been stated by Cabinet Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary which came to light when a local news channel of Assam was covering the panchayat poll campaign by Patowary on Friday.
Leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia has appealed the state Election Commission totake strict action against him through a press release.
Debabrata Saikia stated that , “This sort of statement made in the public is tantamount of coercion and blackmailing of the electorate and makes a mockery of the right to exercise one’s franchise without the fear of punishment from the regime in power.”
He further added, “Patowary has blatantly violated the Provision- 4 of the Model Code of Conduct in as much as his threat to stop allocation of funds for development work s in specific areas in case of electoral defeat is a glaring example of ‘intimidation of voters’.”
