GUWAHATI: Dharjya Konwar, General Secretary of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), has resigned from his position in view of joining Raijor Dal, the political wing of KMSS, ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly by-election.
"To establish BJP and RSS' one nation, one religion ideology the power hungry political leaders of Assam have rented our self-identity, pride and individuality in exchange for power. At a crisis time like this it has become important to stand against the government's anti-public movements in the Legislative Assembly as well as in Loksabha," said Konwar in a statement.
"Hence I am willing to contest a poll fight. Hereby I am resigning from my General Secretary position of our union," added Konwar.
Konwar in his letter also expressed his will to join Raijor dal to take his new political journey forward.

"I want to inform you that I am not going away from revolution. I am just willing to change my road of revolution," Konwar announced.
Earlier, sources told InsideNE that Dharjya Konwar is likely to be fielded against Bharatiya Janata Party from the Thowra LAC, which has been lying vacant since Congress MLA Sushanta Borgohain's resignation from the party and legislative assembly to join BJP, and most likely Borgohain to contest on a BJP ticket in the by-election.
Dharjya Konwar was one of the associates of peasant leader Akhil Gogoi to get booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for leading an anti-CAA protest in Assam and stayed in jail for a period of almost 200 days. He was granted bail on July 17, 2020, by a National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court.
Thowra, known to be a Congress bastion, might see a three-way fight in the by-election if Congress and Raijor Dal do not settle for an alliance, which is under talk, and division of vote between them might prove out to be profitable for the BJP.
