'Chief Minister Sonowal Directly Involved in Assam's Coal Syndicate': Akhil GogoiChief Minister

Guwahati, July 1, 2019:

Outspoken peasant leader from Assam, Akhil Gogoi of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) made some startling accusations against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the current Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, on Monday.

Addressing the media here today, Akhil lamented the current condition in the State of Assam, and alleged that the Assam Government is running a coal syndicate under the very supervision of the Chief Minister Sonowal.

"Even a sitting MP of the State, Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi has alleged that the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visits Tinsukia every 15 days on a chartered flight to discuss the illegal coal syndicate which is going on under his supervision", said Gogoi, wagging an accusatory finger at the current Chief Minister.

"Even Hailakandi MLA Anowar Hussain Laskar has said in a Press Meet that Cachar coal mafia being run from the high office of the Assam Chief Minister himself, and the MLA has alleged that Sonowal's right-hand man Prakash Kashyap himself is the main antagonist in this coal syndicate", he added.

Gogoi questioned why a CBI probe has not been ordered into the Cachar coal mafia, despite the CM's repeated promises to do so.

The KMSS Chief has also alleged that these activities are funding the Northeastern rebel groups who are receiving funding from these syndicates.

In the Press conference, the KMSS also extended their support to the ongoing protest of the TET teachers who are seeking regularization of their jobs, and alleged the current administration of trying to drive a wedge in the teaching fraternity.
