Child marriage cases in Assam go up

Guwahati (Assam), September 28, 2018:

Assam’s Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma on Saturday revealed that the number of child marriage cases in the state had gone up to 317 in 2017-18.

The figure was given in response to a question from Congress MLA Roslina Tirkey.

According to official records, there were 32 instances of child marriage during 2015-16 which increased to 96 during 2016-17. During 2017-18, it got increased to 317, the minister said.
