Guwahati (Assam), Aug 30, 2018:

Fifteen children from Assam, who were studying at the Prajna Jyoti Buddhist School and Meditation Centre in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, were allegedly sexually abused by a monk of the institute.

According to reports, the accused, Bhante Sanghpriya, was taken into custody by the police. The incident came to light after the children had complained against the monk to their guardians.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rajkumar Shah, said the victims had told the police that they were thrashed, mistreated and sexually abused by the monk.

“We are conducting a probe into the allegations,” he said.

The child monks, aged 6-12 years, will be produced before a judicial magistrate on Thursday and their statements recorded under the relevant Section of CrPC, Shah added.
