Guwahati, December 22, 2018:

As we have seen, the state of Assam has been witnessing establishment of medical colleges and universities as part of government initiatives to boost medical infrastructure, but how many of us have spared a thought for a Technical University to be established in the state?

For that, the people in Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) area can rejoice as the first ever ‘Technical University’ is in the works. The Central Institute of Technology (CIT) has been approved for Deemed University and will soon be upgraded to a full-fledged university as promised by the central government.

Speaking to InsideNE, Rajya Sabha member Biswajit Daimary said, “While forming the alliance government with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), we demanded upgrading of the CIT into a technical university as mentioned in the clause of Bodo Accord 2003 and accordingly, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave assurance during his visit to Kokrajhar on January 19, 2016. Now, the CIT has been approved for Deemed University and will soon be upgraded to a full-fledged university wherein students can complete their B.Tech and M.Tech along with research projects within the same institute. Moreover, the students having economic crisis will get a chance to complete their studies within the state rather than seeking opportunities in other states.”

It is worth mentioning that the Bodo Accord (2003) has made the provision of 60 percent of seats in the CIT to be reserved for residents of BTC.
