Citizenship Amendment Bill is the Nail in the Coffin: AJYCP

Guwahati, November 16, 2018:

The Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) protesting against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 has termed it as the final nail in the coffin of Assam.

Speaking to InsideNE, AJYCP president Palash Changmai said, “The proposed Bill is actually the final coffin nail of Assam as after it will convert the entire Assamese community into a minority in their own state. We cannot let that happen at any cost.”

He added, “The government itself has gone against the democracy by blocking and detaining our people from various places in the state.The government seems to be attempting to block our voices regarding the settlement of Hindu Bangladeshis and the Bill as the Panchayat elections are coming.”

He claimed that the Sonowal led government is no longer with the Assamese but rather it is in the favour of the Hindu Bangladeshis which will make the Assamese a minority. “The government should focus of what the Assamese want and what are the problems in the state instead of supporting Bangladeshis”, he added.

Changmai stated that they also want the AGP to clear their stand on the bill and take steps instead of just waiting for the bill to be passed.
