They authorities had placed barricades to stall the charge of the protesters, but when the protesters tried to break through the barricade, they were beaten back by the police.

It has also been reported that the police used tear gas shells, smoke bombs, and blank fire to disperse the agitators.

Meanwhile, thousands of protesters have reached the entrance of the Assam Assembly, and are trying to enter the premises. However, authorities are holding them back. The protests have been seen across the city, and most notably in Dispur and GS Road.

The discontentment over the Citizenship Bill has reached fever-pitch in Assam, with 'spontaneous' protests against the Bill rocking the State of Assam at a time when discussions over the Bill are being held in the Rajya Sabha.
