Guwahati, December 8, 2019:

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has issued its 'war cry' in Guwahati city of Assam ahead of the tabulation of the controversial Citizenship Bill at the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Taking to the streets in great numbers, the members of the organization have issued a message to the Government: that they will never accept the Citizenship Bill at any cost.

AASU General Secretary Lurinjoti Gogoi told Inside Northeast, "There will be protests against the Bill across the region as the Government wants to impose this Bill on us. Mocking the struggles, they want to impose the Bill on the people. However, the people of Assam will never accept such an undemocratic and unconstutional Bill."

Lurin further warned the Government that the imposition of such a Bill will be met with severe backlash by the people of the state, and the protests will be continued in the days to come.

The AASU leader also had stern words for Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. "He is only concerned about his throne. We therefore urge him to stand with the people and for the people of Assam instead", said Lurin.

Slamming Assam CM Sonowal's earlier statement in which he had stated that protests will serve no purpose, AASU Chief Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said that if the BJP party tries to curb democratic protests, they will be defeated in the polls.

"If the people do not rise in rebellion, Assam will turn into Bangladesh. However, we have seen that the people are rising. Assam will survive", Bhattacharya added.
