Amid the raging protests over the Citizenship Bill, the situation has turned even more grim in Assam after a protester, identified as Dipanjal Das, succumbed to bullet injuries after being shot by armed personnel.
Das' acquaintance Bijoy has informed Inside Northeast that he was protesting against the Bill at Lachit Nagar area in Guwahati when security personnel arrived on the scene and opened fire on the agitators. Das, who was hit by bullets, was immediately shifted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he was provided with emergency medical service, where he breathed his last after a brief struggle.
According to reports, six members of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) have reached Das' residence to pay their condolences. Moreover, the student activists have vehemently decried the incident.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Chabua Circle Office was also torched by irate protesters during the day of protests and three Panchayat Offices have also been burnt down in Tinsukia district of Assam.
It is to be mentioned here that at least 25 people have been arrested during a day of protests that have rocked Guwahati city, which has become the epicentre of the agitations.
